MJSL Programs
Recreational Soccer is an open league for boys and girls in grades Kindergarten to 8th grade. The intent of recreational soccer is development of individual soccer skills, teamwork, a positive attitude towards athletics, and good sportsmanship. We want the kids to learn the game, get some exercise and most of all have fun. The Kindergarten and First grade program is focused on developing skills in a practice and game format (Minor Division will have the same set-up for the first half of the season), while the older divisions are set up in a competitive format with scores and standings.
Recreational soccer is played at Harbor Island Park from September to November.
Travel Soccer is a selective program for players with the skill level and commitment to play organized competitive soccer. While Travel Soccer shares development, teamwork and sportsmanship goals with Recreational Soccer, there is also a focus on successful competition. The MJSL can field boys’ and girls’ teams at each age level from Under-8 to Under-16. In 2006, we have 15 travel teams competing. All recreational players will be notified when travel try-outs are scheduled. Players are eligible to play both Travel and Recreational Soccer. Travel Soccer home games take place spring and fall at Harbor Island and local school fields.
Coaching Clinics will be conducted to help new and experienced coaches understand the game and develop coaching programs for their teams.
